If YOU were GOD, what is the one thing that you would NOT know about?

Meditation #1 - The Overcoming

Touched upon on the homepage 'The Overcoming' is the most important of the exercises suggested to you here, and it is beneficial if you make this a daily practice - just to NOTICE. The better you get at recognizing limitations and the human propensity to overcome, the stronger your 'thought experiment vehicle' will be!

B
egin with the image below, which is an ancient Asian artwork depicting a daily life scene. I've tried to make it large enough, but the basic idea is to look for instances of HISTORIC OVERCOMING - people working out ways to meet the needs of an earthly, mortal life.

The bridge itself is the central example! Then I see boats that get people on the water, and sails that harness the wind to move them. One boat without sails appears to depict a fisherman - using one or more tools, created to harvest necessary food.

On the bridge is a horse or mule, carrying a passenger; there are houses on the shoreline to shelter the residents. Even the hats and clothing serve to protect. Can you spot any others? Learn to become aware of our many examples of HISTORIC OVERCOMING...

Ancient Asian artwork depicting daily life
This ancient Asian print depicts how historic humans overcame limitations of daily life with inspired inventions. How many can you spot?

Now let us look at our MODERN OVERCOMING:

One of my absolute favorite examples of modern overcoming is the opening sequence of STAR TREK ENTERPRISE. Whether you love sci fi and Star Trek or not, after a viewing of this approximately 1.5 minute video, you'll understand how beautifully it illustrates the progress of us earthly mortals, reaching to overcome limitations.

Even the fantastic music (song by Diane Warren and sung by Russell Watson) is uplifting and reinforces the theme here! "I've got faith, to believe, I can do anything..."

If there's anything amiss with the video presentation embedded here, simply head to YouTube and search "Star Trek Enterprise opening sequence".

I still get chills and a tear in my eye to see the brave souls who pioneered sailing the oceans, early flight, undersea exploration, and space. The graphics also depict drawings, writing, math - would even an athiest have to accede that accomplishments like these are inspired and miraculous?

God is with and within us, every moment, every day
